An effective way to teach other students about the Holodomor is inviting an accredited guest speaker. If you are unsure of where to start, approaching faculty members or a Ukrainian resource centre within your university or college is a good first step.

In order to carry out this event effectively, make sure you speak with your USO about a few potential dates and times before officially inviting the speaker to your event. This way you can have a few options available to your guest that your USO members will also be able to attend. Once you have finalized a date and time, make sure to book a room within your institution well in advance to make sure you have all the necessary components before you begin advertising.

In the event there is not a Ukrainian faculty or resource centre available, speakers from the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) and the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre (UCRDC) can be invited. Workshops guided by these institutions can also be organized. Once we are allowed to gather in large groups indoors (currently restricted due to COVID-19), you can visit the UCRDC to view exhibits and hear survivor testimonies from archives.

Do not hesitate to reach out to other members within the Ukrainian Canadian community! Most individuals will be more than happy to help your USO spread awareness of the Holodomor.
